The Mountains and the Birth of Bergvento

Although my passion for watches began during my childhood, the idea behind Bergvento came to me many years later while hiking in the mountains.

Surrounded by nature, I began noticing the harmony between the rugged and irregular forms of the rocks and the landscape around them. Every shape appeared different depending on the light, the weather and the angle from which it was observed.

There was strength in the mountains, but also movement and lightness.

In that moment, I decided that I wanted to create a timepiece capable of expressing the same balance: an object that could be worn every day, with a distinctive design, but which remained functional, comfortable and reliable.

This idea became Bergvento.

The name combines two words from two languages that are part of my life. Berg is the German word for mountain. It represents strength, durability and the unique character of the natural materials and landscapes that inspire us. Vento is the Italian word for wind. It represents movement, lightness and the way our perception of shapes changes depending on our surroundings.

Together, these two words express the identity of the brand: robustness and elegance, permanence and movement, form and function. This is only a part of our story

Project Alfa

Project Alfa is the first step in transforming this vision into a real watch.

It represents our first complete project, from the initial sketches and graphic decisions to the selection of the individual components. It was created around the idea of developing a chronograph with a telemeter scale: a traditional analogue function that can still have a practical purpose today.

The project began through conversations with friends with whom I shared hiking trips and time in the mountains. We wanted to create something that reflected the experiences we enjoyed together.

The intention was never simply to launch another large watch brand.

Bergvento is intended to grow as a community of people connected by an appreciation for watches, mountains, exploration and thoughtful design. Through the stories and articles we hope to publish on our website, we want people to share experiences, knowledge and the emotions associated with spending time outdoors.

The watch is the object that brings these ideas together.

Designed to Be Used

For me, practicality means creating a watch that does not become an obstacle during a hike or in everyday life.

It should feel comfortable on the wrist and should not be unnecessarily large or heavy. It should work with casual clothing while remaining refined enough to be worn in many different environments. It should also be robust enough to accompany its owner without requiring constant concern about damaging it.

Most importantly, its functions should have a real purpose.

The telemeter scale found on Project Alfa can be used to estimate the distance of an event that can first be seen and then heard. For example, when a storm is approaching, the wearer can start the chronograph when lightning becomes visible and stop it when the thunder is heard. The telemeter scale then provides an approximate indication of the storm’s distance.

It is a traditional function, but one that can help someone assess a situation, make a decision and look for shelter when necessary.

I find this combination of analogue mechanics and practical knowledge deeply fascinating. A watch can be more than a decorative object. It can teach us how measurements were made before digital technology became part of every moment of our lives.
